Saying no to ragging: “Bus Aur Nahin” campaign being flagged off from Nizam College on Monday. Hyderabad: City police in an effort to contain ragging in colleges is working onto to establish special Rakshak and Blue Colts' squads, which will conduct surprise checks in different colleges in the capital with every police station having special squads. These squads would conduct surprise checks in the colleges under their respective police station limits during lunch breaks, post college hours, hostels and lanes near the colleges, said DCP (Central) Akun Sabharwal at a meeting organised to flag-off Muthoot Pappachan Foundation's “Bus Aur Nahin” anti-ragging campaign at Nizam College here on Monday. Apart from special squads, counselling teams would be formed in collaboration with NGOs' to counsel students, indulging in ragging. It is a social menace and the objective behind establishing these squads is to make students realise the adverse effects of ragging, he said. “I was a victim of ragging during my medical college days in Calicut so much so, I had to change my college. It is a psychological problem and students, particularly from rural areas, are worst hit of this menace,” said Mr. Sabharwal. Nizam College principal Naidu Ashok said eight anti-ragging committees, comprising teachers and students were formed in the college to contain ragging. As part of the anti-ragging campaign, a team from Muthoot Foundation would visit colleges in a bus and take a pledge from students that they would not rag their juniors. The campaign was launched in New Delhi on August 11 and till date the bus has travelled across five cities and received more than 10,000 signatures from students, said M. Madhu, regional manager, Muthoot Pappachan Group. The bus would be travelling to St. Ann's College, CBIT, Vasavi College and Villa Marie College on Tuesday, she added.
