Minister criticised for delay in flood housing

Special Correspondent

KURNOOL: TDP district president Somisetty Venkateswarlu deplored the delay in construction of houses for flood victims in Kurnool district.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Venkateswarlu said 34 villages in the district were ravaged by flood and 38,000 houses were sanctioned for the victims. The administration planned to complete the houses by June 2010. Not even single house was completed so far.

At many places, land acquisition itself was a big challenge. Material like iron, cement and sand was not sourced. If this could happen to the flood victims in the district from where the Housing Minister hailed, one could imagine the fate of victims elsewhere. Mr. Venkateswarlu said the housing programme was in a shambles in the district and Minister Shilpa Mohan Reddy has no control over his department.
