Competition for school, college students planned

PUDUKOTTAI: Under the auspices of the Department of Tamil Development, poetry, essay-writing and elocution competitions would be held for students of Plus One and Plus Two and also for College students' with a view to identifying and nurturing their literary talent.

It would be held on August 26 and for the college students on August 27 at 9 a.m. at Raniar Government Girls' Higher Secondary School, in the town.

In a press release issued here on Monday, A..Suganthi, Collector, said a maximum of three students – at the rate of one student for each contest could participate from each school. The students should bring the certificate issued by the respective school heads .

The topics on Tamil literature and Tamil language would be announced minutes before the start of the event.

Results would be announced on the same day. A cash of Rs.1,000 and Rs.500 would be given as the first and second prize respectively. The district-level winners would participate in the state level competition, the release added. The school and college students interested in taking part in competitions could contact the office of the Assistant Director of the Tamil Development Department functioning at the District Collectorate for further details.
