Bangalore: Karnataka Dalit Sangarsh Samiti, on Tuesday, demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the death of inmates at the Beggars' Rehabilitation Centre at Sumanahalli off Magadi Road here.
Samiti members, after taking out a procession from Mysore Bank Circle to the Raj Bhavan, blamed the State Government for the deaths at the centre.
“The misuse of funds sanctioned for the centre, corruption, serving of ‘spoilt' food to the inmates and unhygienic atmosphere were the reasons for the deaths. The CBI should conduct a probe to unearth the reasons for the deaths,” samiti president N. Murthy said.
The protestors also opposed the proposed anti-cow slaughter Bill. “The proposed law will make possession of beef a punishable offence. The Government should accept that eating beef is a dietary preference and not intended to hurt any religious sentiments,” Mr. Murthy said.
