Kalpetta: ‘Gothra Srushti,' a fusion of traditional tribal music, folk songs and dance forms, performed by artistes of Srishti Munderi, a cultural organisation in Wayanad district, at the Municipal Town Hall here on Tuesday enthralled the audience, mainly Onam revellers.

Twenty artistes, including tribal youths, performed the show, held as part of the Onam week festivities being organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council, in association with the district administration and the Tourism Department.

The programme was beautifully synchronized.

It included ethnic songs of the Paniya and Adiya tribal people and dance forms such as ‘Vattakkali' and ‘Kambalanatty' of the Paniya tribe and ‘Mangalam Kali' of the Mavilan community.

Tribal instruments such as thudi and thappu, percussion instruments of the Paniya and Kuruma tribes; Cheeni, a musical instrument of the Paniya tribe; and chenda, a traditional percussion instrument in the State; provided backing.

“We performed the fusion after a preparation of 10 months,” C.K. Dineshkumar, secretary of the organisation, said.

An Odissi performance by Deepti Mishra and her troupe from Bhubaneswar was also held.

Floral carpet competitions were held at four tourism destinations in the district.

River rafting on the Kabani river, a music programme by the India Vision Street Light troupe and a cultural procession will be held on Thursday.

The celebrations were inaugurated by M.V. Sreyamskumar, MLA.
