Sand transporters blow hot once again
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Sand transporters have once again threatened to go on strike.
G.R. Shanmugappa, president of the All-India Motor Transport Congress, on Wednesday, told presspersons here that sand transporters had already submitted several memorandums to the State Government urging it to concede to their demands. “The cost of a load of sand has increased to Rs. 20,000. If the Government does not decide soon, all the sand transporters will go on strike from midnight of September 5,” he said.
Mr. Shanmugappa said that the main demands of the sand transporters include issue of permits by the Department of Mines and Geology, identifying sites where sand could be quarried and stopping harassment by police and district administration officials.
