A song to set the tone for Games

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday launched the “Delhi Celebrates” logo and the Delhi theme song for the upcoming Commonwealth Games at a function at Delhi Secretariat.

The two-month “Delhi Celebrates” cultural series that gets under way on September 3 and the Delhi theme song will set the tempo for successful organisation of the Games.

Ms. Dikshit termed the launch of the logo and song “an important beginning in the direction of showcasing Delhi in an exciting manner”.

The Delhi theme song Dilli Meri Jaan, Dilli Meri Shaan has been sung by Palash Sen. The lyrics have been penned by Dahila Sen Oberoi and Dr. Sen. The song has been arranged and performed by Dr. Sen and Euphoria band and mixed and mastered by Eric Pillai.

Dr. Sen and his band members also gave a live performance of the theme song on Wednesday. The four-minute theme song is expected to catch the fancy of the masses and get them hooked on to the international sporting event.

The song would become available to the public through various media including radio and mobile phone caller tunes. It will seek to reinforce the identity of the citizens with Delhi by instilling a sense of pride, belongingness and enthusiasm in them.

Cultural festival

“Delhi Celebrates” will be a two-month-long festival of dance, music and theatre. It would be held at six different cultural venues across the Capital and see the participation of 126 leading artistes -- prominent among them being Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Ustad Rashid Khan, Jagjit Singh, Gundicha Bandhu and Sujat Khan.

Handicrafts and cuisine from different parts of the country will also be available at these venues during the cultural celebration.

The logo of “Delhi Celebrates” and the guidelines will be available for downloading on Delhi Tourism's official website www.delhitourism.gov.in from September 1.
