BELLARY: The Bellary police have arrested two persons and have recovered counterfeit currency of 20 numbers of Rs. 1,000 denomination from their possession. Based on a tip off that two youths were attempting to circulate counterfeit currency near the old bus-stand in the city, the Gandhi Nagar police rushed to the spot and apprehended the two and interrogated them. The two, identified as Shafique-ul-Sheikh (35) and Jamal (36), are from West Bengal. They reportedly told the police that they had worked for sometime in Toranagal and now they were here for circulating counterfeit currency, M.N. Nagaraj, Superintendent of Police, told presspersons here on Wednesday. Mr. Nagaraj, suspecting a racket, police custody would be sought for the two. A team of police from District Crime Investigation Bureau, headed by Police Inspectors S.S.Hullur and Basavaraj, have busted a petrol racket. Six persons have been arrested and seized 19 barrels of blue kerosene (which is distributed under public distribution system) and other material used to mix them with petrol.
