Jagan supporters gear up for ‘Odarpu yatra'

Staff Reporter

ONGOLE: Supporters of the Congress MP from Kadapa Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday announced a detailed road map for the proposed ‘Odarpu yatra' beginning on September 3.

Starting from Giddalur, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy would tour to a distance of, 1,395 km in the district covering 293 villages in the 12 Assembly constituencies in the district for seven days, Congress leader Bathala Brahmanada Reddy told reporters here.

“Overcoming all hurdles we will make the Odarpu yatra a success'' he said.

Panel constituted

An eight-member committee was constituted for the conduct of the yatra in the district to console bereaved members of 40 admirers of late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy who had died due to various causes following the helicopter crash which killed YSR on September 2 last year, he said.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy would unveil the statue of YSR at 450 places covering all the 53 mandals in the district, he said.

While Mines Minister Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, a close relative of YSR, had already made it clear that he would take part in the yatra in his personal capacity, Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy had ruled out his participation as the yatra was “neither party nor Government programme''.

The party high command had given an indication to the party legislators against participation in the yatra when six MLAs went to New Delhi on August 17 for consultations with Central leaders including Party President Sonia Gandhi's political Advisor Ahmed Patel.
