Shooting
HYDERABAD: Ace shooter Gagan Narang said it was time to put behind all the recent disappointments and focus on the big events lined up in the next few weeks starting with the Delhi Commonwealth Games this October. The Hyderabad shooter had even contemplated skipping the Commonwealth Games after he felt that he was ignored for the second year in-a-row for the Rajiv Khel Ratna Award. “What has happened is over. I have overcome that phase of disappointment thanks to my friends, parents and the media support,” remarked Gagan. “I am determined to win medals at the highest level in the coming days and for that a detailed training programme has been also chalked out.” Speaking to the media on Thursday, on the sidelines of a felicitation function put up by the Rifle Association of Andhra Pradesh for his bronze medal (10m air rifle) in the recent World Cup in Munich, Gagan said the Delhi Games would be very tough in view of the high standard of competition. “I am in constant touch with my physical trainer too to be fully focussed for the huge task ahead,” said the shooter who won four golds in the last edition. “I am looking at participating in three events in the Commonwealth Games but a final decision by the authorities concerned will be taken after the selection trials in first week of next month. “I will be in the national preparatory camp for the Commonwealth Games and also for the World Cup finals immediately after the Games. “It's a very hectic schedule for all the shooters what with the Asian Games also in China later this year,” he added.
