Minister opens Bursha Utsav

BHUBANESWAR: The Barsha Utsav, a festival of dance and music based on the rains, has kicked off at Rabindra Mandap in the capital. The event, now into its 30th edition, is being hosted by the city-based cultural forum Chinta O Chetana. It will conclude on Friday.

Inaugurating the festival, Health Minister Prasanna Acharya hailed the untiring efforts of the artistes' fraternity of the State to project Orissa as a land of arts and culture.

Indian Council for Cultural Relations Regional Director Meenakshi Mishra, Chinta O Chetana president and former State Chief secretary Sahadev Sahoo, forum secretary Surendra Das and festival director Ratikant Mohapatra were present at the inaugural ceremony.

The festival kicked off with singer Susmita Das singing songs penned on the rains by Debdas Chhortay and music scored by Om Prakash Mohanty.

The dance segment t had internationally acclaimed Odissi soloist Sujata Mohapatra who mesmerized with her presentation of two choreographic compositions - Hamsadhwani pallabi and Barsa.
