NCC cadets set out on 10-day sailing expedition

BHADRACHALAM (Khammam Dist.): Driven by adventurous spirit, enthusiastic NCC cadets bubbling with loads of confidence set out on a 10-day sailing expedition in the Godavari from Bhadrachalam on Friday to explore the mighty river's rich bio-diversity and ecosystem, including its tribal habitat.

Cadets drawn from different Naval units of the NCC in the State embarked on the 455-km expedition in two boats amidst thunderous applause from their fellow cadets and curious onlookers at the bathing ghat on the banks of the Godavari in the temple town.

Earlier, Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Officer Praveen Kumar flagged off the expedition. Expedition leader Commander R.R. Sinha, Commanding Officer, 1 (A) Naval Unit, NCC, Hyderabad, Lt. Col. G.V.B. Sai Sankar, Commanding Officer, 25 (A) Battalion, NCC, Guntur, and other senior officials were present.

Self-confidence

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Praveen Kumar said that the expedition would promote self-confidence and discipline among the cadets, which were the basic prerequisites to overcome any kind of adversities in life and emerge triumphant.

“The participants will get a rare opportunity to understand the ecosystem of the river and the cultural heritage of the tribals who inhabit it,” he said, adding that the trip en route the flood-prone villages on the banks of the river would help the cadets develop a sense of social responsibility to extend help to the victims during natural calamities and contribute their mite to the protection of the ecosystem.

Mr. Sinha said that a medical camp would be held at Chintur on August 30 as part of the expedition. The adventurous trip would conclude at Samarlakota in East Godavari district on September 5.
