Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: The General Insurance Employees' All India Association (GIEAIA) comprising employees of four nationalised general insurance companies has given call for a nationwide strike to be observed in a phased manner in support of its demands. Talking to newspersons here on Friday, vice-president of the GIEAIA R. Srinivasmurthy said that State committees would hold a one-day hunger strike in front of the regional offices in Bangalore and Hubli on August 31 and another strike would follow on September 7 if the government did not respond to their demands. He said that the proposal for wage revision, for which the Government's approval was awaited providing for the 17.5 per cent hike, had been agreed upon by the association. He said the Government needed to revise some of the service conditions that were detrimental to their growth.
