Chennai Metro Rail project on schedule, says Mayor
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: The Chennai Metro Rail project is on schedule to be ready by 2015 with the first four-km stretch expected to be commissioned in 2013, Chennai Mayor M. Subramanian said on Friday.
The Mayor, who presented the ‘Outstanding Citizen's Award,' instituted by the Sindhi Chamber of Commerce, said the work on the first phase of the 45-km project was progressing at a rapid pace.
The Chennai Corporation, which was engaged in various developmental activities, would soon be launching a 20-bed de-addiction and rehabilitation centre for alcoholics.
The Adyar Poonga, another showcase project of the Corporation, was expected to be opened early next year, possibly in January itself.
