Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday restrained the commercial taxes authorities in the State from passing a final order till August 31 on the penalty proceedings initiated against the distributor of Sikkim lottery tickets in connection with the tax evasion charges to the tune of Rs.34 lakh. Justice P. Bhavadasan passed the interim order on a writ petition filed by A. John Kennedy, proprietor, Megha Distributors, Coimbatore. The court issued the order even as the case was posted to August 31 for further hearing. The judge, however, made it clear that the tax officials could go ahead with the other proceedings against him.
