Seniors will be asked to mentor a group of juniors: A.K.Khan Parents of accused will be summoned to the police station HYDERABAD: Rowdy-sheets would be opened against students indulging in ragging and they would be even denied passports, warned Hyderabad Police Commissioner A.K. Khan here on Friday. In addition to the tough measures, the police have evolved a multi-pronged strategy that includes introduction of a system of mentors -- one senior student being asked to guide a group of four to five juniors -- to curb ragging. Billed as the first of its kind system ever introduced in the country, he hoped the concept of mentors would build better relations between seniors and freshers. The senior to whom the group of juniors would be assigned would be held responsible if any of them was ragged. He was addressing a meeting of students, college managements and parents organised by the West Zone police at Centre for Social Economic and Studies, Punjagutta. No admissions Sending a serious message to those indulging in ragging, Mr. Khan said not only would they be rusticated from college but they would also be made ineligible to secure admission in other educational institutions by stamping their certificates with a seal of ‘involvement in ragging case'. “Students involved in ragging cases will not get government jobs,” he cautioned. Managements warned Parents of the accused would be summoned to the police station and counselled. Even college authorities would not be spared. “College managements cannot evade their responsibility stating ragging had occurred outside their premises. Even an iota of negligence in prevention of ragging will lead to their arrest,” Mr. Khan said. West Zone DCP Stephen Ravindra sought cooperation of all to ensure not a single ragging case was registered this academic year. He reminded that the Supreme Court had taken a serious note of ragging. Posters on anti-ragging and drugs were released.
