Guwahati: Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on Friday resolved to undertake confidence building measures to end tension along the border between them.
A high level meeting in Dispur to discuss the situation in the tense areas bordering Sivasagar district in Assam and Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh decided that Arunachal Pradesh would remove the bunkers set up between Charaipung and the Teok river. The area will now be jointly patrolled by police from both States. It was also decided that Assam would take steps to withdraw the additional police force deployed in the area since August 14, an official release said. Steps will be taken by the Arunachal Govt. to stop public display of arms by villagers in the area. The meeting also resolved that strong action would be taken against militants in the area if there is any display of sophisticated arms or extortion attempt by them. To avoid firing by Assam police or Arunachal police as a result of any misunderstanding, it was decided that local commanders would remain in constant touch.
