Remove Chidambaram: Uddhav

Staff Reporter

Mumbai: The uproar in the Rajya Sabha on Friday over Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram's “saffron terror” remark had its echo in Maharashtra.

Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray, criticising Mr. Chidambaram for his remark, demanded his removal from the post.

“The person who doesn't understand the colour of terrorism should not sit in the chair of the Home Minister. The Congress should seek his resignation immediately. We should not tolerate this word ‘saffron terrorism',” the Sena leader said at a function here on Friday.

In the Rajya Sabha, the Sena and BJP members voiced strong dissent against the remark, and the association of terrorism and insurgency with religion. Senior Sena leader Manohar Joshi raised the issue leading to many adjournments.
