It is being hosted by Art Vision cultural organisation

BHUBANESWAR: The sixth edition of “Sangam - a confluence of dance”, an annual dance festival featuring new and innovative choreographic compositions in two dance styles, shall be staged at Rabindra Mandap in the City on September 10.

The event is being hosted by the city-based Art Vision cultural organisation founded by Ileana Citaristi, the Italian Odissi dancer-choreographer who made Orissa her home three decades ago. The festival is conceived as an offering of new and exclusive choreographic compositions in two different dance styles in honour of all the gurus who have guided and inspired us,” explained Ileana, the brain behind the initiative. Every year, choreographers of two styles of Indian dances come together on the same platform to showcase their recent and innovative works; she said and added that while Odissi is a constant factor, the other classical style varies every year.

Ileana, who represents Odissi every year in the festival, shall premiere her latest production ‘Karuna' (compassion) inspired by Mother Teresa's life, informed the choreographer. The script has been jointly written by Devdas Chhotray and P.K. Misra while Laxmikanta Palit has scored the music, added Ileana who has been the choreographer.

Bengaluru-based dance troupe ‘Nritarutya' shall be the collaborator of the festival this year. Contemporary dance choreographers Mayuri Upadhya and Sathya B.G. would present their latest compositions “which are dynamic explorations of the dance vocabulary of our times”, stated Ileana. The choreographers are young and dynamic, she added. A film featuring clippings from the past five editions of Sangam dance festival shall be screened on the occasion, it was learnt.
