‘Purchase power, even if it costs more'

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The working president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday wanted the State Government to purchase power from private players, even if it costs more, to provide immediate relief to industrialists and farmers.

Speaking to presspersons, he criticised the Government on the erratic power supply and said farmers and students have been badly hit.

Mr. Shivakumar said the Government should not worry over the high cost of power from private producers. People would be ready for the high cost, he said. He alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party leaders were blackmailing President Pratibha Patil to give her assent to the Karnataka Anti-Cattle Slaughter and Preservation Bill.

‘Star campaigners'

Asked whether any Central party leaders were campaigning in the byelections to the Gulbarga South and Kadur Assembly Constituencies, he said there were many star campaigners including KPCC President R.V. Deshpande .
