Attack on teachers condemned

Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA: The attack on the teachers of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions in Osmania University campus on Saturday was condemned in the strongest possible terms by several organisations.

Krishna District Joint Action Committee convenor Kolanukonda Sivaji said in a statement that allowing evaluation of answer scripts of B.Ed in a “controversial” university like the Osmania was itself wrong, and moreover the State government had failed to initiate tough measures.

Questioning the ‘silence' of academician like K. Jayasankar and Chukka Ramaiah, Mr. Sivaji demanded that they condemn the incident in unequivocal terms. The State government should initiate action against the culprits responsible for the incident and also protect the people of Andhra and Rayalaseema regions living in Telangana region.

Samaikyandhra Samrakshana Samithi secretary Konijeti Ramesh said in a statement that it was shameful that the students who were supposed to respect the teachers resorted to physical attacks. Telangana Joint Action Committee convenor Kodandaram should immediately resign and tender an apology to the teaching community. The Government should institute an inquiry into the incident, he said.
