Castelino cruises into semifinals

BANGALORE: Fancied Rohan Castelino duly made it to the semifinals of the Cosmopolitan Club State ranking badminton championship with a 21-13, 21-19 victory over Jagadish Yadav here on Saturday. Joining Castelino in the last four stage were Mohit Kamath, Rajas Jawalkar and S.D.S. Krishna,

In the women's singles, Reshma Karthik stunned Ruth Misha Vinod 21-14, 21-11 and advanced to the semifinals. G.M. Nischita, Poorvisha Ram and Varsha Belwadi also entered the semifinals.

The results: Quarterfinals: Men: Rohan Castelino bt Jagadish Yadav 21-13, 21-19; Mohit Kamath bt Adarsh Kumar 21-19, 21-13; Rajas Jawalkar bt Rishikesh Yeligar 11-21, 21-7,21-12 ; S.D.S.Krishna bt Kamaldeep Singh 23-21,21-15. Bowlers call the shots

Bowlers called the shots as Vidyashilp Academy and Shantiniketan Institute scored crushing victories in the Centenary Cup inter-school (junior / middle school) cricket tournament, here.

While Vidyashilp outplayed Indus International and defeated them by eight wickets with Jayesh claiming three wickets for four runs Nikhil (five for four) and Theertesh (unbeaten 41) combined to give Shantiniketan Institute a thumping eight wickets win over JSS Public.

The scores: Indus International 65 for nine in 20 overs (Jayesh three for 4) lost to Vdiyashilp Academy 66 for two off 10.5 overs (Gunshiv 31).

JSS Public School 75 in 18.3 overs (Nikhil five for 4) lost to Shantiniketan Inst. (Bilekahalli) 79 for two in 11 overs (Theertesh n.o 41).

St Joseph Boys got a walk over from Sudarshan Vidyamandir.
