This Day That Age
The Jordan Government on August 29 proclaimed a state of siege in Amman following the blowing up of the Foreign Ministry. Premier Hazza Majali and more than 12 other officials lost their lives in the explosion. A curfew was clamped and all traffic was banned in the city. King Hussein personally took over command of security operations. The army moved rapidly to occupy and seal off the ministerial district and to occupy streets and squares. More than 12 bodies were taken from the ruins of the building which was destroyed after a powerful bomb placed in the basement exploded. The Premier's office was on the first floor, while the Foreign Ministry occupied the ground floor.
