Ancient language status for Telugu sought

New era: Students participating in ‘Telugu Bhasha Dinotsavam' celebrations at Sangareddy.

Adilabad: Collector P. Venkateswarlu on Sunday hoisted the Telugu language flag on the Collectorate premises to mark Telugu Language Day celebrations.

On this occasion, he urged officials to implement Telugu in all official transactions for its development.

Literary personalities M. Rajaram from Nirmal, B. Muralidhar from Adilabad and G. Ravinder from Utnoor were felicitated by the Collector for their contribution to implementation of the language in the district. Mr. Venkateswarlu also flagged off a rally of sportsmen a the Indira Priyadarshini stadium here in connection with the National Sports Day celebrations. He along with MP Ramesh Rathod garlanded the portrait of hockey wizard Dhyanchand whose birth anniversary is celebrated as National Sports Day. The Collector also inaugurated equipment at the gymnasium at the stadium that is part of the modernisation worth Rs. 2 lakh.

Felicitation

Kurnool Special Correspondent writes: Zilla Parishad Chairman A. Venkata Swamy said the job of Telugu lovers should end with achieving ancient language status for Telugu but the language should be made vibrant and popular.

Addressing a function in connection with the Telugu Language Day commemorating the birth anniversary of Gidugu Ramamurthy here on Sunday, he said the language would receive official patronage only when government circulars were brought out in Telugu.

All ZP schools and Zilla Parishad education were directed to promote use of Telugu. Collector Ramsankar Naik said everybody loved one's mother tongue but when it came to implementation many dithered. Mayor S. Raghurami Reddy said the reformation should start with the individual who should speak, write and implement Telugu with commitment.

District Revenue Officer Suryaprakash who heads the official communication wing, said Telugu would be implemented with true spirit. He said the implementation of official language was being reviewed every month in the key departments. Writers, teachers and students who excelled in Telugu were honoured on the occasion.

Birth anniversary

Chittoor correspondent writes: The district administration celebrated Gidugu Ramamurthy birth anniversary as ‘Telugu Basha Dinostavam' here on Sunday considering his services to Telugu language.

Participating as chief guest in the function RDO Subramaneswar Reddy paid rich tributes to Gidugu Ramamurthy for his noble services for the development of Telugu language.

In this occasion three persons Karnam Subramanyam Pillai (Madanapalle), V.K.Mohan (Chittoor), B. Munaswamy (Chittoor) were felicitated for their service to Telugu language.

Similarly Pagadala Syamili (Sathyavedu), Vinay Kumar (Chandragiri), Alekhya (Chittoor) students were also honoured for standing first in Telugu language subject.

Tributes paid

Tirupati Staff Reporter writes: Rich tributes were paid to Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy Panthulu, the doyen of colloquial Telugu language, on his birth anniversary celebrations here on Sunday. At a programme organised by ‘Telugu Bhashodyama Samithi', litterateur Mannava Bhaskar Naidu hailed Gidugu. for proving the pundits advocating the classical Telugu wrong and restoring the glory of spoken language.
