Liability groups to be formed

ERODE: The District Central Co-operative Bank has decided to form at least 20 Joint Liability Groups (JLG) under the control of each primary agricultural co-operative credit society (PACCS) in the district, its Special Officer P. Loganathan said.

Participating at a meeting held at Soundappur PACCS in Gobichettipalayam block recently, the Special Officer said that the JLG concept was aimed at helping farmers who had small land holdings but don't have title deeds or other documents to pledge, those who were tenants and those who cannot get credit from other sources.

Assistance

Besides extending credit, members of the JLG would also be provided assistance for taking up modern cultivation methods to enhance the agricultural productivity in their fields, he added.

Earlier, Joint Director of Co-operative Societies S. Babu disbursed a sum of Rs. 6.30 lakh as loan to 15 persons. Deputy Registrar M. Santhanam presided.

Senior officials from the department and elected representatives were present in the meeting.
