Madikeri: Kodagu district has a good potential for taking up cultivation of vegetables, fruits and flowers as they could fetch good yield if cultivated on a scientific basis, head of the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bangalore, M.A. Sidhu, has said. Dr. Sidhu, who also heads the scientific advisory committee of the Krishi Vijnana Kendra (KVK) at Gonicoppa in Virajpet taluk of the district, was participating in a meeting organised at the KVK to deliberate on the programmes that could be taken up by the farmer community in Kodagu on Saturday , a press release said here. Farmers in Kodagu were enterprising and they needed to be in touch with the KVK to derive maximum benefits, Dr. Sidhu said. Principal Scientist of the IIHR M.R. Hegde spoke on the objectives of the scientific consultative committee at the KVK. Discussions were held on agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry pertaining to their research works.
