COIMBATORE: Common facilities created at a cost of Rs. 3 crore were inaugurated at the Foundry Complex – III at Manickampalayam, near here, on Sunday. According to a release from the Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association and Coimbatore Tiny and Small Foundry Owners' Association, about 60 foundries will benefit from the foundry complex. The works were taken up under the Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme of the Union Government. Roads, office building, meeting hall, laboratory, crèche, canteen, weigh bridge and pipelines were the common facilities added to the foundry complex. The facility is spread over 55 acres and about 25 units are already functional at the complex. One of the main common facilities for foundries, created at a cost of Rs. 1 crore under the project, is a foundry testing laboratory. The foundries in Coimbatore have a total melting capacity of three lakh tonnes. Operations in full-swing at the three foundry complexes will almost double the production, the release adds.
