LAUNCH: CPI (M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan flagging off 'Meet the People' awareness campaign in Coimbatore on Sunday. COIMBATORE: The State unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is ready to face the Assembly elections, according to G. Ramakrishnan, State secretary of the party. Flagging off the party's State-wide ‘Meet the People' awareness campaign on Sunday, he said: “At present the CPI(M) is not holding talks with any party on election, alliance or related issues. It is focusing on taking up people's issues.” The CPM leader said that the exit of Tirupur MLA C. Govindasamy or his supporters had not affected the party. “We are not worried. And, in this region [western part of Tamil Nadu] we are as strong as ever.” Mr. Ramakrishnan said the party through a State-wide campaign from August 22 to 29 highlighted issues such as price rise, failure to redress farmers' grievances and eradication of untouchability. It was also focusing on the “wrong economic policies” of the Central and State governments that were causing hardship to the people. The party would hold meetings in six places and national leaders would participate. Sitaram Yechury would address a rally in Salem on September 4.
