NIZAMABAD: Road link to Kurthi village in Pitlam mandal in the district was cut off following the overflowing of the Manjeera river and a youth, Lalaiah, 27, who ventured to cross the river was missing, according to information reaching here. The village inhabited by 400 people is just like an island as the river Manjeera surrounds it from all sides. A culvert across the river is the only passage for villagers to cross it. With about 80,000 cusecs of water being released by lifting 14 gates of the Nizamsagar Project, the river has been in spate marooning the village. Collector D. Varaprasad told The Hindu that a speed boat was being arranged for the village for the emergency transportation. “Essential commodities have already been positioned and the situation is being monitored from time to time. As of now there is no danger at all. Patrolling is on along the river course,” he added. Meanwhile, it is learnt that flood in the upper reaches of the river receded.
