STIR:BSNL employees staging a demonstration in Tuticorin on Monday. Tuticorin: Members of the BSNL Employees Union, Tuticorin, staged a demonstration in front of the BSNL office here on Monday demanding procurement of 3G data card on a large scale basis to suit the requirements of customers. The 3G service was launched by the BSNL in various districts. With the help of this facility, customers could get access to Internet and other facilities including the mobile television and video calling, M. Jayamurugan, circle organising secretary, BSNL Employees Union, said. Due to its growing popularity, customers were thronging the BSNL office here for getting it. But customers had to return empty-handed owing to non-availability of the cards. Each of the data card was being sold at Rs. 2, 500 at BSNL office whereas in the private market it was being sold exorbitantly at Rs. 3, 500. Moreover, private companies were expected to market the 3G data cards by the end of September. If adequate steps were not taken, the BSNL would suffer loss in marketing such goods, he added. M. Palavesam, district secretary, BSNL Employees Union, led the agitation.
