Telephones in Eluru go dead

Staff Reporter

ELURU: Telephones in the areas such as Kattasubbaraotota, Satavahana Nagar, New Ashok Nagar and Sriram Nagar falling under the Sriramnagar exchange of the BSNL went dead since Sunday evening.

The BSNL personnel blamed it on the road repair works undertaken by the District Panchayat Office on the Eluru-Sanivarapupet road in the DPO-Ramakrishna theatre section.

A poclain, engaged by the DPO personnel for digging the road margins, is said to have damaged the underground telephone cables, leading to damage of phone network.

Even as the BSNL personnel were claiming to be on the restoration job from Monday itself, the phone operations were not yet resorted in these areas.

Lack of coordination

The lack of coordination between the agencies entrusted with the road works and the BSNL is said to be the cause for damage of telephone cables.
