Sporting athleticism at a young age



Thrilled:Winners of events at the Bishop Cotton Girls' High School sports meet, along with their trophies.

Bishop Cotton Girls' High School, St. Mark's Road, conducted its junior school annual athletic sports meet here on Thursday. Retired Maj. Gen. T.M. John, chairman, BGSE Financials Ltd., declared the sports meet open. He also gave away prizes to the winners in various events.

The senior school sports meet was held on Friday. International hockey player Raghuprasad R.V. declared this meet open and lit the sports torch.

Kavya Kurian, games captain, took the oath on behalf of the participants. Drill displays and interschool relays were part of the sports meet. School principal Lydia Joshua welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests.

‘Prerane 2010'

Prasiddhi School, Palace Compound, hosted ‘Prerane 2010', an inter-school festival on Friday. The event provided an opportunity for young scholars from 14 schools to unleash their passions in various fields and battle their wits at the third edition of Prerane. Television actor Shama inaugurated the event. Students from classes seven to 10 participated in declamation, vocal music (solo), cover page designing, vegetable carving, rangoli and ethnic show competitions. M.E.S. Kishora Kendra, Malleswaram, by garnering maximum points, lifted the overall trophy.

School principal Robina Farooq said about 250 students participated in various events and she expressed her happiness over the enthusiasm shown by the participants. “There was no entry fee and next year, we plan to make this event bigger,” she said.

Rangoli Utsav

Dayananda Sagar International School (DSIS), Kumarswamy Layout, held “Rangoli Utsav” recently. About 100 students, both boys and girls, participated in the competition. The allotted time was one hour and the students displayed their skill in the art by drawing colourful rangolis. The school's floors were converted into colourful carpets with attractive rangoli designs. School principal T. Pathanjali distributed prizes to the winners.

He spoke of the importance of kinesthetic and visual aspects in the domain of teaching.

Samskrutika Vaibhava

To bring out the talents of children, the junior school of M.E.S. Kishora Kendra, Malleswaram, hosted Samskrutika Vaibhava, an inter-school cultural festival recently.

Shloka recitation and fun with shapes competitions were open for students of classes one and two. The students of classes three and four participated in devaranama, classical group dance and recitation of Vishnu Sahasranama competitions, while the students of classes five, six and seven in mehendi, vegetable carving and dance drama competitions.

The valedictory function was held on Saturday. Musician M.S. Sheela gave away prizes to the winners. She said India was known for its rich art forms and urged the students to learn at least one of the art forms. Venkat International Public School lifted the overall shield.

Workshop

A workshop on film production was held at Ryan International School, Yelahanka, in association with IAFA recently. Deepshikha, producer and Madhukar, senior cameraman at ICEPLEX, were the resource persons. Students of the host school and also from Delhi Public School and Vinayaka Public School participated.
