Sand-laden lorries seized

Tirupur: Revenue officials seized huge quantities of boulders and sand illegally transported from quarries to construction sites here on Sunday. Three lorries used for smuggling the goods were confiscated.

A team of officials led by Tahsildar (Tirupur taluk) M. Balasubramaniam intercepted the lorries at Iduvai situated on the city outskirts following information that huge quantities of stones and sand would be entering the city illegally. Official sources said that the revenue officials imposed a fine of Rs. 27,000 on each of the three lorry owners for transporting these goods without proper license and subsequently transferred the case to Mangalam police for further investigation.
