BANGALORE: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs. 90.12 crore as loan assistance to the Government for building rural infrastructure in various districts of the State. The projects sanctioned cover rural roads, bridges, social sector projects, including backward class hostels, secondary schools, first-grade colleges and industrial training institutes. Projects have been sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF XVI) and the cumulative sanction to the State in 2010-11 stood at Rs. 372.94 crore, said an official press release. Many of the projects have been sanctioned in the 14 districts that were severely affected by floods last year. Implementation of 78 rural road projects with a total length of 237.12 km and rural bridge projects with a length of 2555.84 m is expected to benefit 18 districts connecting 693 villages with 241 marketing centres, besides generation of nonrecurring employment to the tune of 25.62 lakh mandays, the release said. Expectations Implementation of infrastructure projects related to education are expected to help in skill development and employability for a large number of rural youth, and provide skilled and productive manpower to manufacturing and services sectors, NABARD said.
