Man inflicts burns on self

CHENNAI: In a bid to extend his medical leave, an assistant working in the office of the Commissioner of Police here allegedly inflicted burns on his body.
He suffered 37 per cent burns and was admitted to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, where his condition was said to be stable.
According to police sources, Bhoopathy (49) was on medical leave for sometime.
In an attempt to extend his medical leave, he used kerosene to cause burns below his knees at his house in Kodambakkam.
However, the fire spread causing serious injuries.
A section of ministerial staff has appealed to the Police Commissioner to arrange for specialised treatment to the injured person, the official sources added.
