Udhagamandalam
Memorable moment: The Queen's Baton passes through the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve near Udhagamandalam on Wednesday. Udhagamandalam: Having accorded a fitting welcome to the 19th Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton on Tuesday, the ‘Queen of Hill Stations' once again rose to the occasion and bid farewell to it in a memorable manner on Wednesday. After an overnight halt here when the baton reached the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) enroute to Karnataka camp, elephants joined the officials and others in bidding adieu to it. As the convoy crossed Theppakadu inside the MTR, a few elephants broke the silence of the reserve with their shrill trumpeting. Later, when the baton changed hands at Kakkanullah on the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border, among those present were the Karnataka Minister for Youth Services and Sports Goolihatti D.Shekhar, Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik and the Chamraj Collector Chakravarthy Mohan. Pointing out that the Nilgiris leg of the relay would be hard to forget, the Additional Director General, Queen's Baton Relay, Lt.Gen.(Retd) Raj Kadyan said that the involvement of elephants was novel. He added that the relay has already covered 25 States.
