‘Premalekhanam' set for 100 {+t} {+h} stage

Thiruvananthapuram: The Soorya Theatre Group is gearing up for the 100 {+t} {+h} stage performance of Premalekhanam (Love Letter), a play based on Vaikom Muhammed Basheer's short story.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, founder of the society Soorya Krishnamoorthy and president Gopalakrishna Pillai said actor Mammootty would inaugurate the 100 {+t} {+h} performance at Hotel Sarovaram, Kochi, on Friday evening. They said the play, the second by the Soorya Theatre Group, had been staged at Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi, besides Muscat, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Mr.Krishnamoorthy said the cast and crew of Premalekhanam would be felicitated at the 100 {+t} {+h} venue.

He said the audience at the function would light lamps and pledge to work for the nation, putting aside caste and communal considerations.

Directed and adapted for stage by Mr. Krishnamoorthy, Premalekhanam tells the story of a bank officer and his lover who overcome the demarcations of religion and caste to live as human beings with compassion and tolerance.

Amalraj and his wife Lakshmi play the lead roles in the play. The script is by Basheer Manacaud.

Mr. Krishnamoorthy said Melvilasam, the first play of the Soorya Theatre Group, had completed 400 stages.
