It could have been a mass grave: Acharya
Special Correspondent
Bangalore: Home Minister V.S. Acharya said here on Wednesday that the area where about 50 human skulls were found at Annigeri in Dharwad district might have been a mass grave.
Addressing presspersons here, he said: “it must have been a mass grave 150 to 200 years ago. It must have been an abandoned cemetery.” They (remains) might have been of the casualties during a minor battle at the time, he said. These assumptions were based on preliminary information, the Minister said. “We have not arrived at any final conclusion.”
Two skulls have been taken from the site for a detailed investigation, being carried out by forensic experts of the KIMS, Hubli, and DNA experts from Karnatak University, Dharwad.
