YVU Vice-Chancellor describes September 2, 2009 as a day of mourning all over the State

‘Developing the university into a world-class institution would be a fitting tribute to him'

Students told to imbibe Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's leadership qualities

KADAPA: YSR ‘Smrithi Vanam' will be constructed and his statue will be installed on Yogi Vemana University (YVU) campus here in October in memory of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, YVU Vice-Chancellor A. Ramachandra Reddy said on Thursday.

Addressing a condolence meeting on the university campus on YSR's first death anniversary today, Prof. Reddy said the university was YSR's brainchild and nearly 5,000 students, mostly from rural areas, are pursuing higher education in it.

Novel scheme

Describing September 2, 2009, as a day of mourning all over the State, he said YSR's vision to promote education and ensure higher education to every student as enshrined in the Constitution, inspired him to introduce fee reimbursement scheme.

University Executive Council members C.N.V. Subba Reddy said YSR's demise created a void that cannot be filled and his grit and determination and the urge to keep up his promises should inspire everyone.

Another member Chakravarthy Reddy advised students to imbue leadership qualities from YSR.

University Registrar C. Sivarami Reddy, who presided over the condolence meeting, described YSR as a guide to all.

Developing the university into a world-class institution would be a fitting tribute to him, he said.

Nearly 90 per cent of students of engineering, MBA, MCA and other professional courses benefit from fee reimbursement scheme, Prof. A.G. Damu said.

Free dental camp

Dentists B. Obulapathi, Jakir Hussain and Sai Kumar examined about 500 students at a free dental camp and gave them dental hygiene kits.

Prizes were given away to students who excelled in essay writing and elocution contests and those giving a performance in the recent ‘Srikrishnadevarayulu Panchasatha Pattabhisheka mahotsavam'.

Professors Sk. Vali Pasha, R. Chandrasekhara Reddy, Satyanarayana Reddy, Dhanunjaya Naidu, Vasanthi, assistant professors, academic consultants, non-teaching staff and students participated.
