Reliance on computers very high, says Mylswamy Annadurai

COIMBATORE: The concept of only software engineers using computers for preparing programmes is a matter of the past. Now, professionals from all backgrounds use the computer for developing their own programmes, Mylswamy Annadurai, Project Director, Chandrayaan 1& 2, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Bangalore, said here on Friday.

Inaugurating an international conference on Computer Applications and Information Technology at Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, he elaborated on how computers were used at ISRO in developing satellites.

Fear

“When computers made their entry into workplaces, there was a fear of retrenchment of human resources. But, the benefits of the inclusion of computers are there for all to see. The reliance on computers is very high in India,” Mr. Annadurai said.

Papu Antony Eugene Xavier, Assistant Vice-President, Hexaware Technologies Limited, Chennai, said competence was foremost when it came to software engineering.

“Gaining knowledge, applying that knowledge, and problem solving capabilities, are the three fundamental premises that should be included in software engineering education. The industry should bridge the gap found between software engineering education and the need of the industry,” he said.

Abstracts of the papers to be presented were released by Mr. Annadurai. Adnan I. Al Rabea, A1, Balqa Apllied University, A1-Salt, Jordan, and Abdulsalam Alarabeyyat, A1, Balqa Applied University, A1-Salt, Jordan, received the first and second copies.

Sarasuwathi Khannaiyann, Secretary, Hindusthan Educational and Charitable Trust, and N. Baluswami, Principal of the college, spoke.
