ALAPPUZHA: The State's first ever cyber crime awareness project, which will cover over 30,000 students from schools and colleges in Chengannur taluk, got underway with a workshop titled ‘Cyber Literate—Crime Devoid Campus @ Chengannur Taluk' here on Saturday. Judge of the Kerala High Court and Executive Chairman of Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KELSA) C.N. Ramachandran Nair inaugurated the programme and High Court judge S. Siri Jagan inaugurated the workshop. They pointed that cyber crime awareness was minimal among the young generation and called for expansion of the unique awareness programme to all schools and educational institutions in the State. Youngsters, apart from being prey to cyber crimes, were committing many crimes themselves mainly due to their lack of knowledge of cyber laws, they felt. The four-month programme, organised jointly by KELSA, the Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) and the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT), aims at teaching students on effective and safe usage of cyber space and technology. The workshop on Saturday covered topics, including ‘victims of cyber crime', ‘legal consequences of cyber crime', ‘cyber security measures' and ‘cyber crimes and their social impact'.
