Coast Guard nabs poachers from Myanmar

KOCHI: Coast Guard personnel aboard two ships nabbed 28 Myanmar nationals who were engaged in poaching in the seas off the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, along with their two boats a few days ago.

Another team of Coast Guard personnel and police personnel from Diglipur and Mayabunder nabbed 12 Myanmarese poachers and a boat. The boat was sighted operating in the shallow waters off Flat Island by Coast Guard Dornier aircraft while on air surveillance on September 1. The 28 persons were nabbed by personnel abroad Coast Guard ships ‘ArunaAsaf Ali' and ‘Durgabai Deshmukh,' according to a press release issued by the Coast Guard.

One boat along with 14 crew was seized after chase by the ship ‘Durgabai Deshmukh.'

The routine tactics followed by poachers, on being sighted by patrolling aircraft or ships, is to enter creek areas to evade detection and apprehension.
