Rs. 1.47 crore for promoting job avenues

VILLUPURAM: A grant of Rs. 1.47 crore has been earmarked to Villupuram district under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme, according to Collector R. Palanisamy.

In a statement released here, Mr. Palanisamy said that the grant would be extended to prospective entrepreneurs for setting up industrial units.

The programme was being implemented through the District Industries Centre (DIC), the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB).

The allocation would be split among these organisations as follows: DIC –Rs. 67.68 lakh, KVIC – Rs. 44.74 lakh and KVIB – Rs. 35.45 lakh. In all, as many as 1,030 candidates would benefit from the programme.

The maximum grant for each entrepreneur would be as follows: Rs. 10 lakh for a production unit and Rs. 5 lakh for service-oriented pursuit.

The percentage of grant would be as follows: urban areas – 15 and rural areas – 25.
