‘JD(S) candidate will split votes'

Correspondent

CHIKMAGALUR: Union Minister for Labour M. Mallikarjun Kharge has criticised the Janata Dal (Secular) for fielding Y.S.V. Datta as the candidate for the byelection to the Assembly from Kadur.

Speaking to presspersons in Kadur on Tuesday, he pointed out that Mr. Datta had enough opportunities to serve the people as a member of the Legislative Council, and becoming a member of the Legislative Assembly would serve no additional purpose.

He said Mr. Datta would split the secular vote and help the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate.

‘Failures'

Mr. Kharge said his party would educate the people on the State Government's failure to keep its promises. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa should not forget that he represents all the 224 Assembly segments in the State and not go about saying that he would adopt a particular constituency, he added.

Observing that no progress had been made in irrigation, power generation, roads and socio-economic sector, he said the Chief Minister was losing his credibility.

He refuted the BJP's claim that the Congress has been looting the State for 60 years.
