Guntur
Guntur: Collector B. Ramanjaneyulu has called upon unemployed youth to avail themselves of the opportunities in the dairy sector, which yields decent returns. The government has recently given the nod for setting up mini dairies in 22 districts, 200 in each one of them with interest subsidy of 75 per cent under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) during 2010-11. This is a good scheme that benefits prospective entrepreneurs and youth. The government has sanctioned nearly Rs. 24 crores for setting up mini dairies.Addressing a seminar on dairy industry organised by the Animal Husbandry Department here on Wednesday, Mr. Ramanjaneyulu said the dairy sector had immense potential in the district, and farmers could look at it as an alternative vocation instead of entirely relying on agriculture. The government would extend all assistance for setting up of dairy units. The mini dairies proposed under the RKVY could get loans under ‘pavala vaddi' and other benefits. RKVY was aimed at augmenting milk production in the State. Farmers experienced in the dairy sector, unemployed rural youth and women members of self-help groups were eligible to set up dairy units. The plan was to set up 4,400 dairy units under RKVY. Guidelines issued The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries had already issued the guidelines regarding the financial outlay, requirement of milch animals , mode of payment of interest subsidy etc. Additional Joint Collector Yakub Naik, Andhra Bank DGM P.S. Subba Rao, NABARD AGM Nageswara Rao, Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Damodar Naidu and others took part.
