Panchayat staff demand wage arrears

KOLAR: Scores of gram panchayat workers laid siege to the taluk panchayat office in Mulbagal in the district on Wednesday demanding settlement of wage arrears and providing various other facilities. Led by Karnataka Rajya Grama Panchayat Noukarara Sangha, the workers launched an indefinite dharana on Tuesday in support of their demands.As the stir intensified, the tahasildar convened a meeting of officials and the union representatives. The agitation was called off after assurances from him that the wages would be settled within two days, besides providing uniforms and shoes at the earliest.
