THANJAVUR: Collector M. S. Shanmugham appealed to farmers in Orathanadu area to go for System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method of paddy cultivation to take a good yield using less water. Speaking at the mass contact programme at Kakkarakottai near Orathanad on Wednesday, the Collector said that farmers should take up allied activities like dairy farming, sheep rearing, poultry and fish culture to earn additional income. The Collector said that steps had been taken to shift the TASMAC shop of the village to another .Steps would be taken to upgrade the Middle school in the village to a high school. He said that works worth Rs.18 lakh have been completed in the village under National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme. About Rs 20 lakh worth of works have been completed under Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi scheme. Mr. Shanmugham distributed benefits worth to the tune of Rs. ten lakh to 168 persons .
