Repair work: GHMC workers filling battered roads at MS Maktha opposite the Raj Bhavan on Thursday. HYDERABAD: Having attracted all round criticism from various quarters for huge craters replacing roads in most parts of the twin cities, GHMC has vowed to concentrate on pothole and crater-filling work in the next three days despite holidays. Commissioner Sameer Sharma called all the engineers – from the superintendent engineer to the executive engineer and assistant engineer from all the circles to the head office on Thursday to have a detailed briefing on the emergency road repairs in the weekend since the weather too has remained dry. “No more meetings, no more waiting for instructions. The agencies are ready, men are ready and so is the required material to smoothen potholes. Don't do any other work and don't pass on any bill unless it pertains to the road works,” he told them. Mr. Sharma cautioned them not to use the hot mix on wet patches lest it comes away pretty fast. He advised the SEs to keep a list of the damaged roads reported in the newspapers and also on the bad stretches identified by the traffic police to take up remedial action other than the information available with them. All the Zonal and Deputy Municipal Commissioners would be visiting the repair spots to check for progress and quality of the repairs and submit reports. Private trucks too can be hired if necessary. “Please continue the potholes filling even if there is slight rain. We will review the matter in case there is heavy rainfall,” he said. With regard to the 121 identified stretches that were perennially found to be waterlogged, the Commissioner wanted all estimates to be made ready for taking up cement roads from next week at a cost of nearly Rs. 9 crore, if the rains hold up. He also wanted repairs to begin either on Thursday or Friday night on the Alugaddabavi-Mettuguda road without any further delay as the tender has been already finalised. Chief Engineer R. Dhan Singh said the patch works would be done irrespective of the holidays announced for Ramzan and Vinayaka Chavithi . With R&B Department too finalising road repairs contracts, the municipal engineers would do patch works on the former roads only after ascertaining that a particular damaged road is not part of the agenda, he added.
