CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University (TNPESU) will have full-fledged campus of its own in the Kancheepuram district by January 2011. “The construction work at Melakottaiyur village (near Kelambakkam), Chengalpet taluk, Kancheepuram district, are expected to be completed by December this year and our University will be shifted to the main campus from the old one at DPI campus. “It will start functioning form the middle of January next year,” said K. Vaithianathan, Vice-Chancellor, TNPESU, at a press meet here on Thursday. Separate proposal A separate proposal in two phases for the Development of Playfield facilities at an estimated cost of Rs. 14 crores is under the active consideration of the TN Government, added Vaithianathan. The Vice-Chancellor said once TNPESU gets the 12B status (from the University Grants Commission), it get more grants which will help it get more courses and improve facilities further. J.P. Sukumar, Registrar, TNPESU, was also present.
