The programme was initially launched for non-engineering graduates It is a three-year comprehensive programme with six semesters VISAKHAPATNAM: Leading IT trainer NIIT launched its core programme GNIIT for engineering students here on Friday. The programme was launched by the Registrar of Andhra University P.V.G.D. Prasad Reddy in the presence of Rajesh from Sun Micro System, Bangalore, at VUDA Children Theatre. GNIIT, programme that was initially launched for non-engineering graduates has now been extended to the engineering students, with modifications made in the course structure and curriculum. “The changes have been made to suit the engineering academic curriculum and the industry needs,” said the Director of NIIT-Vizag, N.P. Kishore. The GNIIT programme is a three-year comprehensive programme with six semesters. “It includes six months of professional internship in a reputed IT firm with stipend. The programme is designed to fill the skill gap between university education and the industry requirement,” said NIIT's Territory Head – AP Channel B. Srinivasa Rao. Speaking at the launch the Zonal Head of NIIT, Sangita Sen said, “GNIIT for engineers is specifically designed keeping the engineering students, their already rigourous curriculum and their career aspirations in mind. Graduates of this programme will be first-hour job ready for the global market place.” The course fee is about Rs.1.2. lakhs, but the institute offers a scholarship up to Rs.50,000 for meritorious students. A scholarship selection examination is being held by NIIT-Vizag on September 19 from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. at NIIT Asilmetta campus. “Students can either walk-in for the test or enrol through the website: www.niitcareers.com/bjs2010,” informed Mr. Kishore.
